The following photo shows Vertical (Vertiko) training on a large scale. In practice it is an ideal system on a small scale, for example in a garden. The vines should be planted 5 feet apart. The vines shown are about 5 years old. I suggest having the lowest spur at least 2 feet above soil level.

It is not possible to tension trellis wire enough over a short distance so a tanalised wood post (8 foot tall, 2" to 3" top diameter) should be used for each vine.
There are considerable benefits of 'warmth' and 'support' from having a wood post to tie each vine to, instead of the thin steel cane as shown in the photo.
