Winegrowers Supplies  -  Pruning mulchers / grass mowers

For small tractors from 20 to 30 hp (15 to 22 kWatt). Widths from 1.3 to 1.6 metres.

Pruning mulchers (also used for mowing grass and weeds), rear-mounted on the three-point linkage of your tractor, driven by the pto.
A pruning mulcher is a great way of getting rid of winter prunings (up to 2 cms diameter), spreading the small chopped pieces over the soil
where they gradually break down and add fibre to the soil.

Alternatively, if you want bare soil rather than grass strips between the rows, you can have a towed duck-foot cultivator.

The choice depends on how 'strong growing' your land is and how much clay content.
Vine growth in clay soil is relatively weaker than in a free-draining sandy soil.
If clay sticks to your boots (as it does in Burgundy) then it's nicer to have grass strips to walk on;
however, the vine growth is much weaker if you have grass strips, which is a big disadvantage in the first few years while the vines are establishing themselves.
