Winegrowers Supplies  -  Elliptical rotor pumps - for moving apple pommace or grapes (whole bunches or crushed) to a press

   EM models:

The pump is attached to a hopper with auger-feed into the pump, where the combined action of the elliptical rotor and perimeter shim adjustment valve, pushes towards the outlet and then onwards through a large diameter hose.
The elliptical rotor is made of a highly resistant thermo-plastic material.
The transfer is by compressive action, not by a centrifugal force, thus giving a gentle propulsion.
Maximum height of discharge 2 metres, maximum length of hose 15 metres.
It is mounted on wheels and has a simple vibration-damping device which gives good stability when it is working.
On the larger models, if a long hose is used it is advisable to fit a 'discharge equalising' compensation chamber, to reduce stress and increase stability.

For transferring grapes, either whole bunches or de-stemmed. It is placed under the de-stemmer, the top of the hopper is 40 cms above floor level.
The grapes fall into the hopper, where an auger pushes them directly inside the pump casing. The grapes are then pushed onwards by an elliptic rotor;
the elliptical rotor is a type of volumetric pump with a very low rotation speed (60 to 70 rotations per minute) which enables a very gentle movement, without shaking and crushing of stalks or skins or abrasion of pips.
The grapes emerge through a 100 mm pipe (for whole grapes) or optionally 60 or 80 mm (for de-stemmed grapes).

10,000 to 12,000 litres/hour, 3 kWatt 380 volts (3-phase), 145 kilos, 8 metre pump head.
The pump can be fitted with a mechanical variable speed regulator (1,140 Euros extra).
The other important option is a compensation (equalising) chamber (295 Euros extra); on larger piston pumps, eccentric screw pumps and also on this elliptic rotor pump it’s recommended to install a compensation chamber.
The large pump body and hose, combined with the very low rotation speed causes the unit to vibrate more. The compensation chamber counteracts the vibrations leading to a smoother flow.

It is not harmed by dry running. It is ideal for use with the Precisa and Madrina de-stemmers.
